The right enviroment
A proper enclosure is essential!
Getting the enclosure right and choosing the right equipment is a responsible and difficult task.
There are many brands, qualities and finishes of equipment to choose from, so you can select the right one with the right knowledge.
In this post, we would like to share our own experiences with you, without any cleverness or advertising.
Everybody keeps their animals a little differently, everybody has different preferences and different ideas about the right way to keep a tree monitor.
We have collected a lot of useful reading material, so now we would like to share it with you!
Of course, there are plenty of other interesting things to read about them, but these were the most helpful for us.
But the orientation doesn’t end there! Always ask the breeder! Believe me, anyone who manages to breed a tree monitor really knows their stuff!
But let’s get to the point… How do we keep our animals?
– the size of the enclosure min. 110*70*170 cm
– we always use HID lights (35,50,75W), chosen according to the temperature of the basking area and the size of the enclosure
– We use coconut fibre, coconut chips as a base
– everyone has a heated pool
– all enclosures have humidification and ventilation systems
– humidity and temperature are constantly monitored at several points in the enclosure
– cork tubes and branches provide the right climbing surfaces
– the enclosure backing is also cork
– both living and artificial plants are present in the environment
– we believe that the most suitable plants are: ficus binnendijki, ficus elastica robusta, tillandsia cyanea, bromeliaceae, spathiphyllum (for shady areas)
– all lamps and watering systems are on timers
We’ve tried to include everything in this list, but if we’ve left anything out, we apologise! We could actually write hundreds of pages on this topic, so we’ve tried to keep it to the essentials! 🙂
